The spreadsheet importer accepts CSV, TSV, XLSX, XLS, XLSB, and ODS files. It suggests column mappings, lets you review the rows, and merges matches with existing candidates.
Before you start
Prepare one row per person, with a valid email address or LinkedIn profile URL wherever possible. A company page or search URL does not identify a candidate. Know whether your file should fill missing values or replace existing non-identity values.
Review and import
- Open Candidates → Add candidates and choose Upload CSV in Import candidates.
- Choose a destination list if offered, or Candidates only — no list.
- Upload the file. If it contains several sheets, select the relevant sheet.
- Review the suggested mapping. Match columns to the intended candidate fields or attributes and skip columns you do not need.
- Review the grid, correct values, and deselect rows you do not want. Changes stay local until you confirm the import.
- Check Merge preview: matches by email or LinkedIn, rows without identity, invalid values, duplicates, and existing candidate matches.
- Under When a candidate already exists, choose Preserve existing values to fill blanks, or Overwrite existing values for conflicting non-identity data you intend to replace. Email and LinkedIn identities are filled in rather than replaced.
- Review the optional enrichment choice and select Import with the displayed row count.
Check the result
Read the completion counts: created, updated, skipped, and errors. File duplicates can merge into one candidate, and rows without a usable identity are skipped. Inspect a few imported profiles and their list membership before using the whole set.
Recover an incomplete import
Use Retry upload if staging was interrupted. For invalid identity values, correct the file or review grid before committing.
If candidates were saved but adding them to the destination list failed, use Retry adding imported candidates to the list. This repairs list routing without requiring a second candidate import. Resolve row errors from the completion report rather than assuming every uploaded row succeeded.
Continue with review a candidate or organize lists.
